{"id":4599,"date":"2023-02-23T23:22:13","date_gmt":"2023-02-23T23:22:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.ladybassmusic.net\/?p=4599"},"modified":"2023-04-09T23:35:50","modified_gmt":"2023-04-09T23:35:50","slug":"wonder-women-stories-from-the-women-who-play-bass-jordyn-davis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.ladybassmusic.net\/?p=4599","title":{"rendered":"Wonder Women: Stories From The Women Who Play Bass \u2013 Jordyn Davis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>\u201cStrive for more balance and inclusion in music across the board\u2026we have so much more to gain\u2026a lot of insecurity for folks in the music industry just comes from feeling like you don\u2019t you don\u2019t fit into what they\u2019re trying to ask and all anybody should be asking you to be in a creative space is yourself.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>In this month\u2019s installment of \u201cWonder Women; Stories From the Women Who Play Bass,\u201d we chat with Jordyn Davis, an award-winning bassist, composer, songwriter, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist from Detroit, Michigan.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nIn May 2019, Davis became the first African-American woman to receive a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Music Composition from Michigan State University as well as the first Michigan State student to receive a Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Music Composition and Jazz Studies concurrently. She has also performed and worked with artists such as Rodney Whitaker, Micheal Dease, Bruce Barth, Wycliffe Gordon &#038; The Black Excellence Trombone Choir, Ingrid Jensen, Etienne Charles, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Maria Schneider, Jerome Jennings, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Jaime Lozano, Shirazette Tinnin &#038; Willerm Delisfort.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nAdditionally, she is the proud leader of her own band, \u201cComposetheway.\u201d After completing a Masters\u2019s Degree in Jazz Studies at Michigan State University, she moved to Brooklyn, New York.
